The team competition returns this year sponsored by Southern Runner. The 9K event records are held by Kent McDonald and David Branch (25:43 in 1981 and 1986, respectively) and Jenni Peters (29:00 in 1987). See the event history for all 9K winners.

The Jackson Day Race is open to all runners and walkers, NOTC members and nonmembers alike.

8:30 AM – Start of 9K


Pre-race and race start at the Old Spanish Fort on Beauregard Ave at Robert E Lee Blvd.

Parking and Transportation

Discounted parking will be available at the JAX Brewery lot, 311 Conti St (Central Parking). Get a sticker for your parking ticket from a race official at the after party on Toulouse next to New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood for $3 parking.

Pre- and post-race bus transporation will be provided. Buses will pick up at New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood Company, 541 Decatur St, from at 6:45 AM until 7:45 AM. After the race the buses will run from 9:00-11:15 AM, returning to the starting area.


The 9K course starts on Beauregard Ave. at Old Spanish Fort, follows Bayou St. John, and finishes in the French Quarter at Jackson Square.

Three aid stations with Kentwood Springs water will be located on the course. The course will be open until 11:50 AM.

Team Competition

The Jackson Day Race team competition returns this year sponsored by Southern Runner. Each team member must first register as an individual, then sign up for the team at Southern Runner. There is no limit to the number of team members.

Teams are scored by combining the finishing places of the top five team members within their gender. The lowest team total wins. The scorers on the winning team will get apparel prizes from Southern Runner.


The Louis deLassus awards are presented to the first male and female NOTC member finishers. The Dr. Pat award is presented to the first male master finisher who is an NOTC member.

Awards will be distributed shortly after the race. There is no duplication of age-based awards: Overall, Youth, Master, Grandmaster, and Senior award winners are not eligible for age group awards.

  • 1st Grandmaster Male and Female (50-Over)
  • 1st Senior Male and Female (60-Over)
  • 1st Male and Female in Age Groups 15-Under, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70-Over
  • 1st and 2nd Racewalker Male and Female

Timing and Scoring

The races will be electronically timed and scored. You must wear your race bib and D-tag properly to be scored. Your race bib must be worn on the front of your torso and be visible at the finish line. Your D-tag must be worn properly on one of your shoes. See Chronotrack D-Tag Instructions for details.

Preliminary results will be posted at the race site at the conclusion of the race. Full results will be published on the NOTC web site on the afternoon of the race.


T-shirts are only guaranteed to entrants preregistered by January 1, 2014.


Post-race refreshments include Kentwood Springs Water, beer from Crescent Crown Distributing, New Orleans Hamburger & Seafood Co., Elmer's CheeWees, and more.


Registration is open to NOTC members and nonmembers alike. All participants must be registered and wear an official race bib while on the course. Packet pickup will begin at 7:30 AM on race day.

Entry Fees

Entry fees are non-refundable. Sorry, no exceptions.

  • $30 – NOTC members registered by January 5, 2014
  • $35 – Nonmembers registered by January 5, 2014
  • $20 – Youth (17 and under) registered by January 5, 2014
  • $40 – All entrants registered January 6, 2014 through race day
  • $50 – NOTC families registered by January 5, 2014

Family registration is available to preregistered NOTC member families only and includes registration for two adults and other family members age 20 and under living in the same household. Separate entry forms are required for each family member.

Packet Pickup

Prerace packet pick up will be at Southern Runner, 6112 Magazine St, New Orleans, on Friday, January 10 from 11:00 AM until 6:00 PM. Late registration will be available.

Race-day packet pickup will open at 7:30 AM at the race site.

Headphone Policy

For your safety and the safety of others the NOTC and the RRCA discourage the use of headphones during the running or walking of the event.
