Schedule Change
The previously scheduled Gumbo Festival Bridge Race is being cancelled for 2008. The NOTC announces a new race event to be held Saturday, October 11th. The Middendorf's MANCHAC Run will include both 10 Mile and 5K races starting and finishing in front of Middendorf's Restaurant in Manchac on Hwy 51. A postrace waterfront party will include a live band. This event will be the Grand Prix series race for October. More details soon...
RRCA Coaching Certification
A two day RRCA coaching certification session will be held at the Marriott Courtyard Convention Center in New Orleans August 22 and 23 in conjunction with the NOTC 45th Anniversary Race. For more details see the RRCA Coaching Certification Program site.
Sean Fitzwilliam Inducted Into Loyola Hall of Fame
NOTC member Sean Fitzwilliam was inducted into the 2008 Loyola University Athletic Hall of Fame at a recent ceremony and banquet. The class of 2000 graduate was the first cross country member to be inducted since the sport was reestablished in 1991.
NOTC Teams at the Azalea Trail 10K
NOTC teams and individual runners and racewalkers fared well at the
Azalea Trail Run 10K in Mobile,
AL on Saturday, March 29. Team coordinator Charlene Brinkman reports that
our women's team took first overall in the open/club competition. The
women's team consisted of May King, Allison Moll, Kelly Nicholas and
Santilla Victorian. The second place team was the Gulf Coast Running Club
followed by Team Spiridon in third. The men's team took second place
overall in a very close race against Team Spiridon. The NOTC men's team
members were Sean Fitzwilliam, Don Quintana, Phil Jones, Ronnie Palazzotto
and Bill Plunkett.
In the individual overall divisions NOTC members came away with hardware and cash. Kelly Nicholas won the 1st overall women's masters title which comes with a cool $1000 in prize money. Aaron Boudreaux won the the 1st overall male race walker title. Other club members winning awards in age groups included Don Quintana, Doug Holmes, Ronnie Palazzotto, Bill Plunkett, Sean Fitzwilliam, Leonard Vergunst, Phil Jones, Derrick Lee, Patrick Hugg, Arthur Gassen, Dale Roth, Raymond Nosari, Doug Ramagos, May King, Allison Moll, Santilla Victorian, Janet Earhart, Bonnie Bozant, and Amelia Gassen. In addition to Aaron's first overall title, other NOTC members winning awards in the Racewalker division included Jerry Renz, Pat Driscoll and Tina Childs.
