36th Annual Larry Fuselier Race
More than four hundred runners and walkers were blessed with a cool, calm, and sunny day for the 36th Annual Larry Fuselier 25K, 10K, and 2 Mile races. The races began and finished at the foot of the Mississippi River Trail in Audubon Park and ran on the paved trail atop the Mississippi River levee.
Among the participants were students and coaches from Youth Run NOLA who ran the 10K. Some are in training for the Rock 'n Roll New Orleans Half Marathon.
Jeremy Kalmus was the winner of the 25K in 1:30:24 and Celeste Dolan was the winner for the women in 1:51:04. First overall in the 10K was Sarah Skotty running for Southern Runner who led the race all the way to the finish in 35:51 and Ryan Campagna was the winner for the men in 36:03. Racewalker awards in the 10K went to Elaine Joseph and Reginald Harley. The winners of the 2 Mile race were Peter Alleman in 12:03 and Manyuan Reffell in 12:37.
The post-race festivities and awards were sponsored by the Road Runners Club of America, Gatorade, Louisiana Pizza Kitchen, Phidippides Footwear, Baker Maid, All American Chiropractic, Kentwood, Southern Eagle, Monster Energy Drink and of course the New Orleans Track Club. Thanks to Team in Training for water station support on the course and all of our volunteers and NOTC Board of Directors who help us make this a successful event.
Congratulations to Christina Grandt and Joshua Hunt, winners of complementary entries to the 2012 Rock 'n' Roll New Orleans Marathon awarded after the race.
Ole Man River T-Shirt and Medal Pickup
If you did not receive your Ole Man River race T-shirt or 5K finisher's medal you may pick them up at Louisiana Running, 4153 Canal St, New Orleans, 504-304-4762, until February 18. You must have your T-shirt tab to pick up a shirt or be on the list to get your 5K finisher's medal.
Beginning in 2012, all race shirts must be picked up within 30 days of the race date. The NOTC is currently storing mass quantities of old race shirts and will no longer be able to store them after late pickup ends.
105th Annual Jackson Day Race
The 105th running of the Jackson Day 9K Race from Old Spanish Fort to Jackson Square was blessed with a crisp sunny day with no wind. National Park reenactors brandished muskets and posed for photos with the runners adding to the 1814 theme of the race. Close to 700 runners toed the line and listened as the Battle of New Orleans played and some sang along.
When the gun went off it was Andrew Barton, Brendan Minihan, Jr. and Sean Fitzwilliam running in a pack. After the two mile mark and on the downhill, Barton pulled away from the pack and led the race all the way to Jackson Square, finishing in a time of 29:47. Minihan was second in 30:13 and Fitzwilliam third in 30:32. In the women's race Megan Gubbins finished first in 35:58, second was Celeste Dolan in 36:38 and Mary Erin Imwalle finished third in 36:48.
The Steamboat Natchez dock provided the location for post-race refreshments and awards presentations. Thanks to our sponsors JACOBS ENGINEERING, US Risk Management, National Park Service, Southern Runner Sports, All American Chiropractic, Mizuno, Kentwood, Crescent Crown Distributing, Baker Maid and Monster Energy Drink.
