"Thanks for your call following Hurricane Ivan. The running scene will definitely be different around here for months to come.
"I know lots of New Orleans people enjoy the Navarre Beach weekend. Right now, it is questionable. Roads are washed out and the Holiday Inn is damaged. We won't say the race is cancelled until we know for sure that we can't do it. Another race New Orleans comes over for is our Fiesta Run in early May. That's far enough out that there should be no problem. The Fiesta course was going to have to change this year anyway, as the Cervantes Street bridge has been demolished for a scheduled replacement. The Seafood Festival which was to have been last weekend was postponed. Shirts and awards had already been purchased, so we'll hold the race later - probably November 13. Our fall cross-country run cannot be held at the University of West Florida as usual due to heavy damage to the course. We can probably set a course at Brosnaham County Park. See our website for daily updates.
"As far as tangible assets, the club came thru pretty well. We have 2 equipment trailers which had been moved for safety and they are fine. I don't think we lost any equipment. Our budget will be tight next year due to lost race revenue, especially if we can't do Navarre, but we'll manage.
"The Capt'n Fun Runners (of which I am also a member) have lost our meeting place at the beach for the foreseeable future. We resumed regular Wednesday runs this week at Capt'n Funs Downtown, which is here in downtown Pensacola. The Bushwacker Run is probably too far in the future to be impacted by the storm. Other scheduled weekly runs have resumed or will resume any day now.
"Tell all our running friends in NO we welcome them back next year, and that we'll be over as always for events such as CCC and the marathon.
"Thanks, Bev"
