NOTC teams and individual runners and racewalkers fared well at the
Azalea Trail Run 10K in Mobile,
AL on Saturday, March 29. Team coordinator Charlene Brinkman reports that
our women's team took first overall in the open/club competition. The
women's team consisted of May King, Allison Moll, Kelly Nicholas and
Santilla Victorian. The second place team was the Gulf Coast Running Club
followed by Team Spiridon in third. The men's team took second place
overall in a very close race against Team Spiridon. The NOTC men's team
members were Sean Fitzwilliam, Don Quintana, Phil Jones, Ronnie Palazzotto
and Bill Plunkett.
In the individual overall divisions NOTC members came away with hardware and cash. Kelly Nicholas won the 1st overall women's masters title which comes with a cool $1000 in prize money. Aaron Boudreaux won the the 1st overall male race walker title. Other club members winning awards in age groups included Don Quintana, Doug Holmes, Ronnie Palazzotto, Bill Plunkett, Sean Fitzwilliam, Leonard Vergunst, Phil Jones, Derrick Lee, Patrick Hugg, Arthur Gassen, Dale Roth, Raymond Nosari, Doug Ramagos, May King, Allison Moll, Santilla Victorian, Janet Earhart, Bonnie Bozant, and Amelia Gassen. In addition to Aaron's first overall title, other NOTC members winning awards in the Racewalker division included Jerry Renz, Pat Driscoll and Tina Childs.

The previously scheduled Gumbo Festival Bridge Race is being cancelled for 2008. The NOTC announces a new race event to be held Saturday, October 11th. The Middendorf's MANCHAC Run will include both 10 Mile and 5K races starting and finishing in front of Middendorf's Restaurant in Manchac on Hwy 51. A postrace waterfront party will include a live band. This event will be the Grand Prix series race for October. More details soon...
NOTC member Sean Fitzwilliam was inducted into the 2008 Loyola University Athletic Hall of Fame at a recent ceremony and banquet. The class of 2000 graduate was the first cross country member to be inducted since the sport was reestablished in 1991.

Kurtis at Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, MN. Doug Kurtis is a three
time winner of the Mardi Gras Marathon. The MGM is his Marathon PR
at 2:13:34. He also holds the world record for sub 2:20 marathons
completed.
The 2008/2009 Board Officers and Members-At-Large were elected at the
general membership and election meeting held Thursday, June 26, 2008
at the Foundation Center Building in Lafreniere Park, Metairie, LA.
The new Officers are:
Past President Mo Emory will serve on the board in an ex-officio position. Additional appointed Board members will be named in the near future.
Hundreds of runners, walkers and supporters from the metro area
turned out on Wednesday, June 25th for a fundraiser run/walk to
benefit the Johnny Frost Pancreatic Cancer Fund. Race Director
Mo Emory presided over the event which brought in over $14,000
for the benefit fund. Although all in attendance were deemed
winners, the top finishers included Overall Brandon Wingate at
10:03 and Danielle White at 13:33, Masters Tim Phillips at 11:17
and Peg Martinez at 14:35. Grand Masters overall winners were
Juan Perez at 12:12 and Susan Manikin at 15:47. Thank you all
for your support!
Several NOTC members participated in the USATF SW Regional Master & Open Championship held Saturday, June 28, 2008 in Bernie Moore Stadium on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge, LA. Meet results provided by Bart Stagg.
Local cross country and track coaches Ryan Gallagher and Chris Kelley attended the recent USA Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon. While there they participated in the Butte to Butte 10K Roadrace on July 4th. Ryan finished 34th overall at 34:48, while Chris was a little further back at 49:21.
Finishers of the 6th Annual "Hotter Than Hell" Marathon held Sunday, July 6th in Audubon Park (and starting at 3:00 AM!) include: Francis Braud, Randy Thibodeaux, Byron Adams, Bryan Lewis, Teddy Lopez, Mickey Lanclos, Amanda Lanclos, Beverly Bahle, Aaron Boudreaux, Betsy Boudreaux, Tina Childs, Liz Lotz, Nick Congemi, Sharon Harney, Susan del Corral, Jack Hayes, Sean Johnson, and Bob Lanteigne.
Randy Martin of the Harahan Rotary Club reports that the Elmwood Classic Roadrace funded $12,000.00 in college scholarships to the following local high school students: Alexandra Champagne, Beverly Gaudin, Aileen Do, Jessica Meariman, and Nicholas Stratis. The Elmwood Classic has raised over $160,000 in the past 22 years. The event is held annually in February.
